Origami step one

Make an Origami Card Holder!

Here are some instructions for making a simple origami card holder in the shape of a dog.
Origami is a highly developed fine art in Japan and has been practiced there for more than a thousand years. Origami paper, made in Japan especially for folding, is brightly coloured or patterned on one side and white on the other side. However, any thin paper that will take a sharp crease may be used.
Start with a square piece of paper and fold it in half, from corner to corner, like this.

Origami step two
Fold the corners in to the centre line formed in step one to make a kite shaped base.

Origami step three
Fold the top the kite back to form a cone shape.

Origami step four
Fold the corners of the cone back to make dog's ears.

Origami step five
Now, flip your paper over, and fold back the bottom of the cone to make a tail. Make a second fold in the tail to make space for cards.

In Japan, origami figures are often attached to gifts. Popular subjects for the origami artist are the crane, the tortoise and the frog. We hope that you have some fun trying it out for yourself!
